The nominees for this year are:

Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs (2009)
Coraline (2009)
Fantastic Mr. Fox (2009)
The Princess and the Frog (2009)
Up (2009)

Unfortuntely, Ponyo gets snubbed, but if I'm correct, Miyazaki never had much luck on the Golden Globes (with the exemption of Spirited Away, of course)...but 2009 was such a tough year in animation, it also makes sense, I guess.

Whatever, animation was great this year. Up captured your inner child, Coraline added a nice little creepy edge to it all and Princess and the Frog is a lively, welcome return to traditional animation. ;)

I know that a lot of people will complain that Ponyo got snubbed. I haven't seen it myself, but to be honest I expect this to be the list for the Oscars as well. These films all seemed to have really good advertising and get good reviews. I never really heard much about Ponyo that wasn't on this forum. And I'm not sure how aggressive that their campaign will be, but this does look like a really good list to me.

meatballs does not deserve to be on there, Ponyo should have that spot, aside from that its a great list. I think that coraline or Princess and the frog should win though.

Out of the nominees,I've seen Coraline,UP,and The Princess and the Frog...All were great films in their own right, but my favorite was The Princess and the Frog...I just thought the music/songs,characters,and animation in the film were amazing...plus,I kinda prefer 2-D animation to stop-motion or computer animation......

Haven't seen Ponyo yet(so I can't comment on its exclusion),though I would like to(I'm probably going to get the DVD when it comes out),as Studio Ghibli makes good movies...

As much as people might want to think otherwise, Up will win. First, lets compare the Rotten Tomatoes percentages on the candidates:

Up: 98% (8.6 average rating)
Coraline: 89% (7.6 average rating)
Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs: 85% (7.3 average rating)
Fantastic Mr. Fox: 92% (7.8 average rating)
The Princess and the Frog: 83% (7.4 average rating)

Up's positive:negative review ratio is much better than most of its competitors. Looking at that, Fox would be its biggest competition. However, the interesting part is Up's average rating, which is .8 better than Fox's. Sure, that does not mean that much, but you can't ignore Pixar's momentum at these awards. Pixar has won the award in this category ever since it was introduced. Hell, even "Cars" beat "Happy Feet"! This category belongs to Pixar, it always had. Up will win this one easily.
