Golden compass - Review.

Calm down! I've heard that they left out the last three chapters so that they could use them in the start of the second film, giving it a more exciting beginning (assuming that TGC does well enough to warrant the sequel being made).

Just got back from seeing it. It was "okay", i'd give it about 7/10.

I don't see why everyone seems to be gushing over the little girls acting though, she's no better than any of the kiRAB in the early Harry Potter films (i.e. Not very good), and her muddled accent was really irritating, it was almost as if they were trying to keep the 'British-ness' of her character, but also make her understandable to the American audience. Daniel Craig and Eva Green were extremely underused and their parts seemed more like cameos, the special effects were "underwhelming" and seemed to rely far too much on CGI that never looked believable (especially on the Daemons), and i wasn't very happy with the ending either, it enRAB on more of a whimper than the bang it should have had, hardly leaving me gagging for the sequel (although i will still end up seeing the next two films, if only because i want to see how it all pans out).

Still, despite that, it was quite enjoyable, and the fight scenes (despite being few and far between) were quite good, particularly the fight between Ian Mckellen and Ian McShane as giant polar bears! Surely worth the price of admission alone :)

Craig was "underused" simply because his character doesnt actually appear that much in the books anyway.

Overall I thought it was a good film, nothing special, but an enjoyable way to spend the evening watching it.

And according to their website, my Daemon is a moth?! :S

It's not doing well in the US (taking just 8.8 milion, which is poor really), but over here it is doing fairly well, probably due to the fact that the book is better known in the UK than the US.

dont know anything about the books but saw this and it was just rubbish:mad::mad::mad::mad:

it lacked believable fantasy that if harry potter and narnia books. Dust ,demons who cares? I dont:eek::eek::eek:

Well there is a point to the dust and demons. Although, it doesn't come across as well in the film as it does in the books. Dust is one of the fundamental concepts.

Went to see it Yesterday. I'd never read the books so didn't know what to expect.

Got abit confused at the beginning with the whole "Demon" thing lol.

I did enjoy it, Perfectly set up for a sequel.

why the book called northern lights anyone know?:confused::confused: and why was it no used instead of golden compass and why was the book not called golden compass now I am getting all hysterical:D:eek::D:eek::D:eek:

His dark materials is in a different league than harry potter and possibly narnia( never read them). I just watched the trailer for caspian it looks a lot better than the LWW( which I thought was okay, dawn french saved it). They just did not give the golden compass the time it needed to establish itself. I never liked the first harry potter film but it got me reading the books.
