going to HK, where to get N73

Splendid Irony

New member
i've been looking for a n73 for awhile now but I found out my mom is going to HK for 2 weeks.

what is the current price in hk? and where can I get it.
also I would prefer the black music edition, is it out in asia yet??

or should I just buy it from SN Traders? I want the red one but its 600 canadian.....

help me decide please....

It's hard to beat the Nokia Flagship Store in Causeway Bay, which has the biggest selection of models and colours, plus great service.

Otherwise, try any Smartone-Vodafone or CSL store. Prices are quoted if you look under "handsets".

Another choice is any Fortress or Broadway store.

Sin Tat cheapest is about $3300 HKD = $485cdn ({grey market stock} I dun recommend, but they may throw in a 1GB mem)
Fortress and Broadway about $4100 HKD = $602cdn
mobile604 (in Vancouver) is currently at $575cdn

I just came back from HK less than a week and got myself a N73.

And no, the black ones are not out yet.

When she gets there, she can ask around.
The price she will find out when she finds out who sells it..
Or buy it from SN traders and leave your mom out of it completly...

i dont think you needed to be a smartass there, he said his mom is going. if i were asking my mom to buy me any kind of electronics or phone in a different country i would want to be able to tell her as many specifics as i possibly could, how many moms do you know that are tech savvy? clearly he wants the red if the black is not available which is why he asked if it was. not too hard to put together from reading his post.

I just brought my N73 from "Fortress" in HK and brought back to Canada.
Thay have a specail deal now, with free 1G card and 1 extra battery (not Nokia brand) and 1 desktop charger.
Original sale tag shown $ 4100 HK, but I talk over with the sale guy down to
$ 3880HK

I dont buy from "Sin tat" cos...i dont feels that safe and no free gifts as well.
--------------------------------------
After you brought the N73, pls use it for awhile before you leave HK.
cos 2 of my friends had some problems...( program cash) after they brought the phone from Fortress, then they went back within 10 days and Fortress exchanged a new N73 to them. If after 10 days, you need to bring the phone to Nokia workshop by yourself.
THats all my advice. Enjoy your trip

By the way, if you have your old phone, Fortress do trading as well.
I traded my sharp SX833 as $ 2000 to them as well.

Sorry if my original post was not as clear as I thought, I just wanted to see if the black version was available while my mother is in HK for two weeks. Anyways she is leaving tomorrow and it doesn't seem like the current n73 is a lot cheaper. and I dont want to end up with a broken phone.

Do you guys think I should get it from HK??

yeung330XI,

I am now here in Hong Kong. The places like Sincere House Commercial Podium (aka Cin Tat) or hundreds of stores in Causeway Bay, Wan Chai, Tsim Sha Tsui, Mong Kok, Shum Shui Po, etc. are NOT necessarily crooks, just because they can sell the same N73 at lower price. Sure, horror stories like swapping the guts, flashing the firmware or changing the faceplate, then selling them as brand new stock... Not all of the handsets these stores are selling, as "grey market stocks" or used items.

I have traded in a PEBL for a "authorized stock for Hong Kong" 6233 in a store at Wan Chai Computer Centre. Carriers, big retail chains like Broadway and Fortress are selling handsets at higher price but usually giving some promo perks / free gifts / accessories upgrade / special discount for further in-store purchase. Nokia's own stores, of course, have the most expensive price tag.

Regarding how to tell the difference "grey market" and "authorized" stock, Nokia Hong Kong now has a unique tamper-proof [Nokia Care] sticker, marked with the expiry date of the warranty. Some authorized distribution channels like World-Tech and HKC have their own hologram on the box and on the handset as well. Another tell-tale sign is checking check the phone localized menu / configurations for particular carriers in Hong Kong.

"Grey market stock" is corncern but think about this: even if you purchase a Nokia handset from a authorized distribution channel in Hong Kong, it too will become a "grey market stock" once you bring it to Canada! The bottom line: you want the saving or you want the extra peace of mind.

That has not been my experience, but remember when you buy a phone directly from Nokia, you get the latest firmware already installed. If you buy from a retailer, they've often had the phones in stock for at least a month, so it may not necessarily have the latest FW.

The other thing is that I don't know if it would make a difference, but if you actually live in another country, perhaps the Nokia Service Center at home might be more willing to honour the warranty if you produce a receipt from the Nokia store in Hong Kong, rather than from a retailer.

.

Nokia in your country WON'T deal with you even if you purchase at the Nokia stores out of the country.

Also, most big retail chains keep their stock fresh as like Nokia does. Think of thousands of people're shopping everyday in Hong Kong, go figure. I've bought a N80 last year at Nokia Store (near Jordan MTR station), but the firmware version was same as other big retail chains. If it's still bugging you, the legit stock within the warranty period can be flashed at flat rate or no charge if you bring it to Nokia Care centres in Hong Kong.

Canada Computers seems to have a couple at their Pacific Mall location.

I've been looking to pick one up as well, but I'd like a few choices. I have bought some computer parts from Canada Computers before but was unimpressed with the service/price. Not to mention I doubt they'd do anything for you if you ran into a problem with the phone. (merely based on the 'help' I got with some problematic RAM in the past)

Markways is also a possibility in the GTA. Same price.

Yeah right after I made my post I saw some at the Canada Computers Pacific Mall location - but like you, I realized a long time ago they're one of the 'buy and leave us alone please' types. I bought a monitor from them and they kept pushing me to rma it myself, even though it was a week after I bought it from their store. It took 20 minutes of near shouting to get them to exchange it with another one in the store. Any of you guys know if/when there would be a black version being released of the n73?
