Going on Vacation

Going on vacation to Beijing. Was wondering what I should do so I don't incur a load of roaming charges? I would still need my BB to communicate to others in the group I'm traveling with as well as friends back home. Thanks

Here are a few suggestions:

1. TMO will add International Email to your BB account for $19 month. This will allow you unlimited email usage while you travel. DATA / SMS / BBM are not included and will be charged.

2. Voice and Data roaming in China is quite expensive. You can ask TMO to unlock your curve, or pick up or borrow a cheap unlocked handset and get a local SIM card so use while you are there. Local calls in China are quite cheap this way. I carry my 8320 with TMO and email service, and use an unlocked 8100 with a China Mobile SIM card for local calls. You can also make afforadable calls back to the USA with either IP dialing or call back service (see the link below for more info)

3. If you want to take are of all this in advance, I have used these folks for years and they are great. You can order your SIM and have it waiting at your hotel, and they will give you your local phone # before you leave so you can pass it out. You can also recharge your SIM with them or in most local stores.

Have fun - Beijing is one of my favorite cities!

Here is some updated advice from China.....

1. Dont forget to enable world wide roaming on your TMO account if you plan on using your TMO sim while overseas. Otherwise you will only get an SOS connection.

2. If you plan to use your BB with a Chinese SIM you may want to install an OS version with Chinese support....At least then you will be able to have someone read you the SMS messages your carrier sends you...

I wish I would have remembered to check it you have world class roaming on your device. I assumed you had it. ~via BB (wap.rabroad.com)~
