Hi. I'm switching from Sprint to either Cingular or T-Mobile. I'd like some advice as to which way to go, and from there which phones I should look at.
First off, I'm in Minnesota. I just bought a house, and both my phone and my girlfriend's phone do not work in the house. They work outside. So we've had some friends with other carriers come over and we've found that both T-Mobile and Cingular work in the house. So I plan on going with one of them. We'll be getting a family plan. As an example, with the corporate discount I get, I can get the 1400 minute Cingular plan for the same as the T-Mobile 1000 minute plan. Oddly, both are cheaper than my current Sprint family plan with corporate discount. Ok, so that's the carrier debate. Oh, and my girlfriend's sister lives in Chicago and she has Cingular. They talk at least every other day, if not daily, for a little bit, so going with Cingular has a benefit there. That's it I think.
On to the phones. My girlfriend is easy, she wants a Razr (pink) and both carriers have one. The Cingular one is actually pink, the T-Mobile one is magenta (or the other way, don't remember off hand). I'm the harder one. I want something that will get good reception first, and have a few features second. Brands don't matter to me. I'd like faster internet service (EDGE or better), since I'm used to the Sprint Power Vision EVDO. I like to check my email (Gmail and Hotmail) on the phone, and I'd like a memory card so I can throw some MP3s on there, or whatever else (my current Samsung A900 doesn't have a memory card and I hate that). And I prefer candybar or sliders to flip phones now.
So of the phones I've played with or read reviews of, here are the ones I kind of like. With Cingular I was leaning toward the Samsung D807. It gets a good review on CNet, and seems nice. There is also the LG CU500 that seems similar to the A900 and has HSDPA. But it looks like it has a small screen. But it also gets a good review on CNet. With T-Mobile, I've played with the Samsung T809, and liked it. Other than that though, I haven't seen much I like. If I were to buy an unlocked phone for either, I saw the Sony Ericsson W810i on Amazon, and it looked nice. Seems to be a cool phone. Has all the features I like and more really.
Thanks for your help and advice!
