Going from E to T3

Hi

I am about to go from a TE to a T3. I have a lot of software on the E so I am a bit reluctant to re-install it all on the T3. Since the OS is the same on both devices, can I simply backup the E and restore on the T3? It would really be nice if this worked!!!

Regards

You can do a partial backup and then a restore. There is a file on the E called SavedPreferences - this recognizes the device as an E instead of a T3 and also recognizes the device ID which varies depending upon several factors. It also has the variants unique to the E that are not present on the T3 and vice versa - collapsable graffiti is the main issue.

Legally, each software vendor is different, but you should repurchase the software for the "new" device but this varies depending upon the vendor. Iambic for example allows you to have up to 3 different devices with the same user name and software license.

My recommendation is to do the following:

On the PC make a backup of the user directory for the E and rename it to "old".

Install the T3's desktop and use the same user name when prompted as the E's. Then start restoring (one or two at a time) the various files associated with the E to the T3.

The reason I say this is to avoid too many conflicts that might come over from the E's backup that you renamed "old".

But whatever you do - do not copy the savedpreferences nor unsavedpreferences files from the E to the T3 - you will have conflicts if you do that.

I had an e at one point and like my T3 better-- also you want to make sure the compatibility prcs are installed on the T3- they should be on your disc but if not they are slide and rotate prc s I'll have to look up the names of them for ya. Oh and you can get a very good video player for your T3 if you haven't used it before it's called TCPMP

if you need more info pm me or just google those- I'm on a fly by look at the forum
