Going camping but I'm scared of thunder and lightning. Is there a risk of being...

...struck by lightning? I'm ok if I'm inside, but if I'm out in it, then I'm pretty scared.
I'm going camping and we've had some pretty fierce storms over the past couple of weeks, and I'm feeling a bit apprehensive.
I mean, how safe are you in a tent pitched in a field with trees scattered round it? Are you a sitting duck???

lightning will go for the high points.. ie tree's poles anything.. the lightning might have some offshoots smaller bolts branching off .. since it's wet pretty much anything will conduct.. even away from tree's etc.. if your the high object then that pretty much nulifies being away from tree's.

it should be pretty safe tho.. if you simply get in your car.. when the lightning is striking. Of course this wont help if the first strike happens to be the one that hits you. in your car.. with a metal shell you would be pretty safe.

You should be ok if the tent is synthetic (less likely to conduct) and are far enough from the trees. If the forecast is for stormy weather, cant see why you'd go anyway, annoying as well trying to sleep with that infernal tapping of rain. I'd think you'll be ok though, just so long as your tent isnt held up by a 50 foot metal pole.

Have a "quacking" time.
