Dude, my friend had the exact same problem as you. It's not the fact that your friends take every girl you go after. It's more the fact that you are too shy. My friend, Tyler, i swear to god would wait like a month to ask out a girl, and by then she would have a boyfriend.
The best way to go about it is to be confident, if you don't wanna ask the girl out right away, ask her just to go somewhere with you as friends, be yourself. If she says no to going somewhere with you as friends, then she probably won't even think of going out with you.
When doing this, don't take forever letting them know that you like them. After the circa 3rd time going out as friends let her know, and don't just give clues...TELL HER. Well that's all I can say about that.

well, like alot of 'slower' more 'caring' guys you often are going to end up as the friend and safty net, good for hitting on rebounds (sp?). basicallyget to know the girl before your friends do, get a head start and its easy from then on.
