Wow! I didn't think Johnny Young Bosch was actually going to do a season 2 after the barrage of negative reviews that season 1 got! I even asked Johnny about a possible season 2 at my city's anime con a couple years back and he simply responded that it was "up to the fans". Guess the fans were willing to give him another chance to make amenRAB.

sweetness. but wait? is this a podcast or VideoPodcast? like Track-Shun???
argh...i miss Track-Shun...the best anime review i've ever seen....

the guy(forgot his name) would review 3 different anime per episode. give you like 7-9 minutes to watch a clip of the anime, and then decide whether to "track it" or "shun it". but he stopped making his videos around episodes 74... *cries* one of my fav reviews of his were gurren lagann!

I finally got around to watching this. This is the episode I really cared about:
AnimeTV reviews Rebuild of Eva 1.0

I like how as much as I tried to act like they hated Eva, they had to end up admitting they loved it.

I have to say I hated their review of Monster. Not because they didn't like but because their were no other opinions. It was just the 4 of them bashing it. Then they said death note was better when Monster (as much as I love Death Note) is way smarter. With better characters. Just get someoe who can disagree with them.

That said, after watching their reviews of EVA and Monster, I can say I'm not big on their tastes or style. Complaining about EVA being whiny and unhappy? That was the point! You don't give a negative review to a war movie for showing the horrors of war.

With Monster, I sympathize with them on one hand since I don't think the show's that good (great manga, great story, but what works in manga can't work the same in anime and the direction is so faithful panel-by-panel it does get stiff and boring; the complaints people had about the Watchmen movie actually apply here). On the other hand, it's ridiculous to complain about it for being too "thick" when they also praise every other 200+ episode shonen anime. And yeah, some people HAVE read both Tolstoy and Tolkein. And complaining that it's not science fiction? That's bad marketing, not a sign of a bad show! The guy who acted in the show while also bashing on it harder than everyone else also just bugs me for some reason; I guess on some level its my whole image of "anime dub actors=fans", but also that he bashes the dub except for his own role is just snotty. I was also annoyed with the comments about "modern technology" and stuff. Really, this isn't a CGI-heavy action show, what sort of technological advance could really improve the directing quality of a show like Monster?

It seems as if a lot of these people aren't fans of anime as a wide artform but rather only fans of it when it fits a specific genre and story expectations. In this way, they're the equally unlikable flipside of the Academy voters who ignored Wall-E and The Dark Knight because they were "genre movies."

Of course, I might just be bitter they dropped the fan review submission thing.
