Gnutella pioneer Gene Kan dies

Tis sad, but it still erks me to see how they associate him with the success of gnutella like it was all because of him that gnutella suceeded...

argh...

My condollences to his family and friends..

Ya thats me I just been busy with life and all. Baby on the way nd trying to make a living....

gnuCache is still my first and last net program ever . Was fun, but others who have a lot more talent picked up where I left off. I just filled the niche at first. It was a blast being part of "the beginning" and wouldn't trade it for anything. I just wish things could have worked out better. I still think gnutella et all could have been much bigger, but it's still nice to see people carrying the torch and to see some of my ideas still around in some clients. My favorite being the editable challenge response strings to create a private gNet.

So how you been?

.... been staring at the monitor for 15 mins with the hope of coming up with something pointed to say about this

... finally realize that nothing seems appropriate except:
"what a stupid #@$%ing waste"

I remeber Gene's and Steve Kimball's Gnubile. That must have been over 2 years ago by now, hasn't it?

I agree with Vawlk. But nonetheless, it's sad news. And considering that Gene Kan was the same age as I am when he passed away, that's scary...

If someone commits suicide then it is a sad thing especially when the person is young and must be miserable with his life.
It also is wrong to commit suicide because then you make your family and friends suffer becausof your death and nobody has a right to do that.

My prayers to his family.

From what I heard, he killed himself because he felt everything he did in his life was a failure. If only he realized the system he helped to give birth to.

I C. I didn't read the first link you posted, but the second one, where they noted it was as a result of an accident (figuring it could have been a car accident or so). That's even more sad and scary then.
