gnutella blocked??

I'm on the network here and school and behind a firewall now. my problem is that we can't connect to gnutella(they're blocking us somehow) and everything i've read so far talks about firewalls not allowing incoming connections but not much about blocking outgoing connections. what can i do to get a connection to the gnutella network??
 
a little more detail on what happens will help us help you. What client are you running? Does the auto connect work? Just what is happening? Things do take a while to connect and search. Check this for an explaination of what happens: http://forums.gnutelliums.com/Forum1/HTML/000032.html

I'm using LimeWire(in linux) and I can't connect at all. Auto connect doesn't appear to work and it always says not connected. I tried using bearshare in win too with the same result. it seems like we can't get a connection to anything. i don't know if this is because they've blocked the default ports for these or what.
 
If you're attempting to run a gnutella client behind a firewall (such as from a school), in all likelihood, the default gnutella port is blocked (port 6347).

You may try to "sockisfy" your gnutella client, using SocksCAP or Socks Hummingbird. This converts all IP/UDP calls to SOCKS. Then you can use Socks2HTTP to convert the Socks packets into HTTP packets, which will traverse your firewall on port 80. You'll need to have port 80 open through the firewall for your computers, which is probably the case, as most schools allow web surfing from all workstations.
