Gnome Cheat Not Working - Sims 2 PS2?

Hi, I know this is probably the 100th time someone has asked this question but on Sims 2 PS2 on Story Mode (Cliffside Retreat) I can't seem to get the Gnome Cheat working! I press the start button and then go into one of the options for e.g. progress I type in the Gnome Cheat and 1 of 2 noises appear but when I go off of start and back into the game nothing has happened and there is no Gnome by the mailbox!

Need help!
