Not sure if this is the right place to put this, but I just got a Tweet that Android just got gmail Task support.

"Gmail Tasks gets Android Support User Rating: / 0

In an effort to add a little more value to its email client, late last year, Gmail Tasks was rolled out in Google Labs. Google's latest Labs project allowed users to create, manage, and edit lists of tasks in a similar fashion to Outlook and Lotus Notes. At the moment, Gmail Tasks is not a native application for Android, but merely a iinterface that allows you to access all your tasks you have created, add new ones or delete tasks you have already completed. Since gmail Tasks is still in the Google Labs, you will need to enable it on your Gmail account through yourweb browser before you will be able to access it through your Android handset. Just head on over to gmail.com/tasks to get all the details and activate the service and then go to the same address on your phone.
Once you have Gmail Tasks all set up, you can add, delete and cross out tasks to your hearts content. The Gmail add-on also allows you to create multiple lists of tasks, move tasks up and down the list, indent, and add details to all your tasks so that you can keep things organized and neat. Just like Google Calendar, Gmail Tasks is a greate little addition to your Gmail account. But like most things that Google pushed through their Labs, there are a lot of things that seem to be missing. At the moment you can not associate tasks to a contact, add reminders, or even set expiration dates. Since Gmail Tasks is still in its infancy, I'm sure we will see quite a few features added over the next few months. I would not be surprised if Google rolls out a Gmail Tasks App eventually, but until then we will simply have to be satisfied with the web interface."

I have it on my G1. Nice. Convenient. Thanks . . . . but really, I mean REALLY what I would prefer is be able to create and edit Google Docs on my G1.

Is it just me or do others get frustrated in trying to figure out how to manage new applications - well in this case not yet an application!

I have browsed to the gmail.com/tasks - yes it looks cool. But now trying to get that shortcut onto my G1 Desktop seems impossible. Indeed taken me ages to get it saved as my homepage! _ Sad really because for those of us who use this for work and in preference to a Blackberry a functioning task list is ESSENTIAL and needs to be easily accessed and edited!

:-(

Any advice guys/girls

To access the page, point your browser at mail.google.com/tasks

Then, click 'menu' and 'bookmarks'. Click on the 'Add new bookmark' menu item and click 'OK' on the dialog. It's now in your bookmarks.

To add a link to your desktop, long-press on your desktop and expand 'Shortcut' and select 'Bookmark'. Select your 'Tasks' bookmark from the list and a desktop shortcut will appear where you long-pressed.

Excellent - simply when you know how . am learning a lot today!

Thanks - am sure they'll be other issues as I start to use my G1 more. How to i call up an on-screen keyboard? Or may be I should first look though the search function. That is something bound to have been asked!

Yeah - always best to search before posting. It's the number one complaint from the veterans.

There's no on-screen kbd, although individual apps have implemented their own (HandCent SMS, ChompSMS and Steel are 3 off the top of my head). You'll hear a lot about 'Cupcake' on these forums, some of it correct. What is certainly true is that there is a branch of development at Google which is called Cupcake and includes lots of new features that people are desperate for, such as an on-screen kbd. These features are unstable and not yet ready for the public, but that doesn't stop lots of clever people building this branch of Android on their own and running on their phone. Not for the faint-hearted! As time goes by and the features mature, Google will merge them into the main branch for the public.

very nice tool, but i don't like how i have to use the browser for it.

hopefully it'll be an app.

So far the best To Do/ Task App is Astrid.

is anyone working on making an app out of this? it would be interesting to somehow integrate this with G-Calendar! if someone is working on it, and wants some support, please PM me

I also use Astrid - I need reminders and it's a cracking little app that does the job perfectly.

Strange that I can't just select Tasks from the Calendar list though - it works on a PC and I love that I can otherwise sync my Android with Google Calendar, as well as helping to keep my personal and work appointments separate, it means I can share my public football fixtures calendar with other people.

(Anyone know how to delete a calendar from my phone's list? It's not visible in my Google Calendar so I don't know what's going on there!)
