Gmail Sync Failure

I have a weird problem here.

Just a few days ago I actually managed to get my inbox down to 0. That's when I noticed that despite my inbox being empty on my desktop, the phone was still showing mail that I'd archived, read, or removed.

I've cleared the gmail cache and the gmail storage, and as soon as I got a new message in, while it would show up in both the desktop and the phone, if I read it on the desktop and dealt with it the message remained unread on the phone.

Interestingly, if I do a manual refresh the title bar are the top will say "Inbox (-1)"

I even went so far as to do a wipe on the phone. No joy there either.

So if anyone has any other ideas, I'd be happy to give it a shot.

go to settings > applications

find the 2 gmail entries, go into them and clear the data/cache for each, if that doesn't fix it you'll need to do a wipe. (factory reset)

I've seen the -1 too.

The clearing data would have been my first bit of advice too - but you've already tried that like you said.

My Inbox (-1) seems to disappear when it resyncs. Have you tried going to the Data and synchronization settings and unchecking and rechecking Google Mail to force a resync? You might also try that after clearing the data too, although clearing the data should force a resync, so I'm kinda getting desperate here.

Also check in GMail -> Menu -> Settings -> Labels -> and try setting Sync all for each label. That should make sure every folder or label is resynched properly. Again - just a guess, I'm not convinced it would fix it.
