Gmail problem

Got my TX working on WiFi finally, and went to check the email by getting some Gmail. But it insisted on downloading all 317 emails - all I'd ever got on my Gmail address.

The only way I could stop it doing this was by deleting all the Gmail in my Inbox on my computer, which was a bit of a nuisance, because it was work-related.

Is there any fix for this?

Not that I've worked out - when I found the same thing, I tried Archiving all my messages on Gmail, but they still look new to POP3 and therefore all get downloaded. And my primary account currently holds 24,518 email threads (probably 40,000+ emails), so it was a bit more of a problem for me - if I only had 317, I'd not worry too much!!

The workaround I came up with was to use Gmail's forwarding facility to forward and archive all new email to a different email account. My Palm picks it up from there and deletes that copy after a couple of days. The result is the pick-up box rarely has more than a couple of hundred messages in - if I wanted less, I tell the Palm to delete each message as soon as it's downloaded - while all my received messages are still safely stored in the Archive folder on Gmail.

Oh, thanks, Telyx - looking at the Gmail preferences on the Palm, I see you can set it to "Mail from the last week" or "3 days" or "1 day", etc under Delivery Options. That's that solved!

What are you guys using to get email from Gmail on your TXs? I've just loaded the Gmail local app but it seems to only give an online view into the mailbox, like the web version does.

To get my email offline, I've been using Eudora as I find it more adaptable than Versamail. But I did have Gmail working with Versamail at one point.

So what are you using...?
