GM Dexicool coolant should I change it to the green stuff?

I suggest you stay with Dex-Cool but only because it had Dex-Cool in it and mixing Dex-Cool with the green stuff has the potential to cause corrosion issues. Even if you flush the cooling system it will be nearly impossible to remove all of the Dex-Cool chemicals from the system and there are warnings about mixing Dex-Cool with the green stuff because of chemical reactions which causes corrosion issues. But I don't trust the 5-year/100,000 mile Dex-Cool change interval. I won't trust any antifreeze beyond 3 years or 30,000 miles. It just becomes too acidic. A pH meter or pH paper will verify that.

Forget Prestone's claims. There are no universal coolants. Before you change your coolant, read the "GM Litigation" web-sites. There is a problem with chemical compatibility with many GM gaskets with Dex-Cool. If I were you, I would use Mercedes Benz coolant. IT is yellow, and can be used for 150,000 miles.

I have a 96 Bonneville SSEI and I need to change the coolant. its still clear orange but I was told it should be changed every 5 years. I want to flush the system and replace the thermostat also. should I change the coolant to the Prestone 50/50 green coolant it said it will work with all types of coolant. or should I just get the Dexicool?.
