I have a 98 Olds Regency (loaded 98) with just over 64k miles on it. I have owned the car for about 3-4 months now and had no issues what so ever.
Earlier this week I started my car and heard it knock fairly loudly at startup then tone down to soft at idle. It goes away when you rev it until the engine rpms come down. Sometimes It has a squeak with it at idle. Oil is clean and full.
Ive heard the starter sometimes doesn't retract and can contact the flex plate causing a knocking sound. Also the harmonic balancer can possibly cause this if bad.
It sounds like rod knock to me but I cannot understand why it started all of a sudden and at only 64k miles on a 3.8!
Has anyone else had this issue or similar ones. Any advice is welcome.
