Glorious 39

Funnily enough....that does`t surprise me.....Hows the horror weekend going......I noticed on another thread you`d set yourself up for a weekend of gore...lol

We saw it last night. First off, I have to say, the sticker on the front of the box tried to make out that Glorious 39 is in the same league as Atonement - it's not, not at all. The wartime setting, Romola Garai and Juno Temple are the only things the two films have in common.

Now, normally Stephen Poliakoff films make me want to throw things at the screen and swear, but G39 was marginally better than his usual smug pseudo-clever tripe. I liked the main idea of

your family being involved in a plot to appease HItler to prevent WWII, but they're trying to keep it from you

, and there was some fine acting by the leaRAB (not Christopher Lee, sadly), but I had a few gripes: 1) strange editing, where scenes would end abruptly, we thought it was our DVD player going wrong!, 2) some of the scenes weren't acted very well, almost as though they were a run-through, and 3)...

I guess there's some sort of supernatural element to the proceedings? What was with the young Walter appearing out of nowhere? What was the ending about, the way they focused on Anne's face, as though the audience should've realised something? And the bit at the beginning where the 3 siblings are playing together and they see something, what was that??

Oh, and 4):

Not enough David Tennant! ;)

Overall, I'd give it 5/10 - which is a shame, as it really should've been a 7/10 film.
