GIRLS: Why is my period in a DARK red color instead of bright red?

I am 17 and my period cycle began on Friday. Since that day, my period was only in a dark red color, it its like a really dark brown color too. Usually when I get my period, it is just bright normal red. Is there something wrong with my body?
No I did not have sex and I am not pregnant.
