Girl Scout Thin Mints

Per the discussion here the other week about them-

My boxes have been delivered and I don't find them to be different at
all. They taste just as good to me as ever! I do notice that they've
done someething different in the manufacturing that they now have 5
little dimples in the top that they never had before.

The Tagalongs are equally wonderful, albeit the box sure holds fewer!

I got a box of Tagalongs for $4 today at Lowes. Totally not worth $4.

The Girl Scout Scam seems to be an up and coming Enron.

I have not liked the Girl Scout cookies for many years. Back when I sold
them, the mints were not thin. They were a sandwich cookie dipped in
chocolate and they actually tasted good. Not like chemicals.

Maybe you remember the expose one of the newsmagazine programs did on
the girl scouts?

It started because of a retired woman who had a strong business
background who was also a troop leader or whatever they are called. She
realized something was wrong when say they sold $10,000 worth of cookies
and got $112 back from headquarters to pay for the local activities. She
did her homework about the various costs involved and tried to
understand the huge overhead.

Turns out the girl scouts had this huge corporate office in CT suitable
for enron filled with high paid folks doing do nothing jobs. All of the
money went to pay for that and other silly stuff.

Interestingly enough the boy scouts have no such central organization.

Me too. I buy at least a case of Thin Mints every year, and have boxes
from most of the last ten years in my garage freezer. They're
indistinguishable.

AFAIK, the GS have occasionally changed contract bakers, and sometimes
offered different producers regionally.

Bullshit.

The Boy Scouts of America National Council sucks up $17.8 million, or
10% of the donations it receives (vs. 7.5% for the GSA -- $6.5
million). The Chief Scout Executive is paid over $1 million a year, vs
$435K for the GS leader. 4.6 million youth members vs. 2.4 million
girl members

If you like Tagalongs you should try the Reese's chocolate covered
peanut butter cookies. They're in the cookie aisle in the grocery
store and come in brown and orange box. They are gooood.

Agreed. We always have a tube of Thin Mints in the kitchen freezer
door, alongside extra sticks of butter.

We just picked up 2 boxes at Lowe's this morning. They taste just
like the ones I sold in the early 1950s. They do have the little
dimples, but that hasn't changed the taste. These are baked in
Richmond, VA.

I never had thin mints that were anything but a single cookie covered
with mint chocolate. And we bought them every year regardless of
where we lived.

Just sent DH back to Lowe's for 4 more boxes. We shall see if any
make it into the freezer.
