definitely books, an encyclopedia series maybe. or a magazine subscription which is about any of his interests (gaming, sports, nature).

Well, books are always good. And they even have these new things now that are like an Ipod for books. I think it's called the "NOOK", and you go online and download a full book, then read it on the Nook. Maybe one of those and a giftcard to Amazon to download a few books?

I'm looking for gift suggestions for my son - other family members have already bought all the games on his list for him PLUS got him general gift cards for gaming stores....He does NOT want an ipod so thats out, he already has the gaming system he wants, he already has a laptop so BASICALLY NO ELECTRONICS....

Any suggestions for other cool or unique gifts? So far i got him a couple board games, books, and a telescope (ordered online and turned out to be A LOT smaller and cruddier than i expected ;( )

How about magazine subscriptions?
Or his own personal star to go with the telescope (if he's likes that sort of cache thing) ?
Depending on how hard he is on his supplies, maybe a new backpack or school supplies.

phhtt he would hate you for just getting some old books he needs some kind of active thing, like maybe some brand new, ultra-boyish sports thing, like a cool football or some kind of wild version of a game, like instead of baseball, like...i dunno...some improved new game based on it...or maybe like something he can do with his friends...what ever you get don't get him something like a magic 8 ball. what i mean by this is don't get him something that he believes works but everyone knows it's just fake, and 3 days later he comes and says, "man, this sucks, it's just some stupid thing that little kids would believe," you know what i mean?
also boys love drawing, maybe get him some drawing supplies or learn to draw books

instruments are always a good idea too

also this is electronic but what about a camera? that's basically the funnest thing to have, and it never runs out because he will just download the memory card to the computer, and once they're permanently on the computer he can delete them on the memory card so he can take as much pictures as he wants, and videos, too, he'll be taking pictures all over the place, it'll be fun for him, and there are some pretty cheap ones out there, too
and if he doesn't have one already he needs a flashdrive

whatever you get...don't get him something that will make his friends call him a nerd or geek or something, that will just ruin his christmas
and like i said...he doesn't sound like a school fanatic, like he's just a video game computer boy, so don't get him a bunch of science books and stuff, he'll never ever ever use them

hope your family as a great christmas! happy holidays!

hope i helped!

Try some books on a subject that he is interested in, science, technology, outdoors, sports, etc. The reason I say some is because you might buy 3 books and only one he might pick up more than once. Lots of books on all subjects have been written for the younger age group to get them interested in their field. 12-13 is the age to start them thinking about who they are going to be when they grow up and books are a great way to get them thinking about all the different fields of work that our society has to offer.
