gift ideas for 3 year relationship & the guy is in the military?

so my boyfriend & I have been together for 3 years now & he's currently in basic training for the military. I want to give him an anniversary/graduation gift when I go see him for his graduation. But I don't know what to get him. I was going to give him a promise ring or a guy bracelet but that sounds too girly & he already has a watch & i can't get him a video game or movie or something because he doesnt have those things with him. so i need to find something that he can take with him to his AIT but I want it to be personal too. Any ideas?
 
When I was in the service an old girlfriend got me a zippo lighter with her initials on it and a little saying. That was the best thing I had over seas that reminded me of her. And its practical, even if he doesnt smke a zippo is a handy thing to have
 
Honey, a promise ring is not girly at all. As a matter of fact, my fiance lives 12 hours away in college and I am getting him a promise ring and giving it to him in July (if I can order it in time)

I dont know if I would send him something too expensive being in training. Since he is overseas, you might want to give something for entertainment wise, as I am sure he is bored over there.
