Giant Rincon vs Cannondale F8 or other bike?

Need recommendation on a decent mountain bike for around $500 or less. I recently saw the following bikes: (not sure on the year models) I am guessing 2009 on the F8 and 2010 on the Rincon.

Giant Rincon for $439.99
Cannondale F8 for $419.99

Or any other suggestions i.e. Trek, Specialized, etc....
