Ghostbusters - Blu-ray release

Apart from some added special features is this release going to be any different than what you already get on DVD?
Is the film getting some sort of restoration process like what Lucas did with Star Wars to make the film look better than it ever did?

All Blu-ray releases look better than their DVD counterpart, regardless of how good the HD transfer is. I'd be very surprised if they didn't do a good HD transfer for this film.

To be honest, even if the transfer isn't that great, it'll still look and sound much better than the DVD version.

Can't wait!!

Not a reason to buy it again though.

The so-called better picture and sound does not add anything new to the content of the movie in question. Everything remains the same. One of the crew still gets slimed by Slimer in the corridor and they all still zap the hell out of the ballroom in the hotel, HD or not.

So the double disc [the two movies] in a green slime coloured case I have on DVD will do me just fine. Thank you very much.

Not a reason for you, granted, but I'd like an opportunity to see the film as close to the directors vision as possible. I don't want to miss any of the glorious detail. Some people find that more than enough reason to rebuy films in Blu-ray.

Edit: Why state "so-called better picture"? You've not compared the DVD and Blu-ray version, have you?

Got this today and I am severely unimpressed with the PQ:eek:.To me it is just too grainy,is anyone else getting this or is it just me:confused:

You think they would have done a better job for the 25th anniversary, how come a film say Zulu or The Italian Job can be remastered and look absolutely stunning as in the case of Zulu:)

I bought it yesterday, stuck it on just to make sure it worked okay and it did seem quite grainy. I looked around on other sites like iMDB and it seems that it clears up a bit at about the 40 minute mark. Not checked this myself yet though. At the end of the day it's only going to look as good as the film print allows it to look, and it still definitely looks better than the DVD.

Wallpaper is for the PS3 only sadly. Pop it in your PS3 and it installs a nice theme where the wallpaper changes randomly to characters from the film.

As for the Blu-Ray its appalling quality. The main film is just not worth watching better off digging my VHS copy out. The Hi-Def upgrade just exposes all the flaws in it, the special and creature effects really suffer.

They should have got an original copy of the film before the effects were applied, hi-def that then add the special effects back in using current CGI techniques.

It's OK, that's what I want - so I take it if I go looking in my themes option it'll be there?

EDIT: It's OK, found it - went to Games with the disc in and it was there.

After all my excitement, I'm left feeling slightly underwhelmed! :(

The picture looks better than it's DVD counterpart but for such a popular film, I thought more care would have gone into the BR transfer.

I watched the BR last night, and while the grain is visible i didn't think it was as bad as some are making out. The picture is sharp and vibrant, and the grain only seemed to be distractingly noticeable in a handful of dark scenes or scenes that involved SFX.

My only complaint would be that my surround sound system didn't handle it very well with the voices being really low compared to the near deafening music. My neighbours probably hate me, lol.
