Ghost World

I don't think it was a perfect Clowes adaptation - but Buscemi is danged good in it. Also, Scarlett Johanssen acts like an anorexic piglet on valium all the way through this film - Thora Birch plays defiant insecurity with aplomb. Birch should have gone on to greater things and it's a wonder, contrasting teh two performances here, that Johanssen's career ever eclipsed hers.

Not familiar with the comic book at all, but I absolutely love this film. It was on telly the other night wasn't it? I have it on DVD, and it's a real favourite of mine. I too cannot understand what happened to Thora Birch. A thoroughly stunning actress, and better then Johanssen for my money, right across the board. She's always breathtaking whenever I see her, especially here and in American Beauty.

Actually I've not seen this for a bit. Might have to pop it on later...

OMG, theres a thread for Ghost World!!
I'm so tired of people asking what my favorite film is and I say 'Ghost World' and they haven't got a flippin' clue what I'm on about.
It is a classic for sure. Excellent script, excellent acting and casting. I'd also recommend anything by Daniel Clowes.

One thing I want to ask fellow ghost world fans, that bugs me every time I watch this movie - does Enid commit suicide at the end? Is that bus to nowhere a metaphor? I think thats the way I read it but I'm not so sure.

Thora Birch deserved an oscar for that film. Whats really weird is she looks the spitting image of Enid in the comic books, which were written years before the film was made.

It's a crying shame that shes not on the big screen more, she's a mighty fine actress.
