Hey, i just got my new card in the mail and im getting ready to install. I was reading over the instruction manual and it warns about static shock to the card. How do i avoid this. On site says to where a anti shock bracelets, unfortunately i don't have one. So, how should i go about installing this new card?
im not exactly clear on what you guys mean on just touching the metal part of my computer. Could you guys clarify? I don't want to make any mistakes.

Make sure your case is not on a carpet area, then take both hands and touch the outside metal cage of the case, to nuetrilize yourself, then you should be good to install the card as long as you don't squirm around or move, if you do have to move just retouch the case.

Just strap a piece of wire around your wrist and then atach the other end to the PC tower . Make sure that nothing is plugged in and don't forget to install the driver for the card or download a latest driver from Nvidia or the site from where ever else the card is from.

You are wise to be concerned about static shock - especially when you are talking expensive video cards. In the absence of a anti-static bracelet - ground one hand to the metal portion of your computer case.

1) Turn off the power.
2) Unplug the plugs on the back of the tower.
-Wait 10-20 secs for the electrostatic discharge on the Motherboard to "cool off."
3) Open the up and unplug all the wires connecting to the power supply.
4) Have any part of your body touching/holding on metal, like the casing of the power supply for example or you can wear plastic gloves like the ones used to wash dishes LOL. Basic household stuff.

Well, that's how I was taught. I tried it and I didn't get any shocks whatsoever. Took out the old video card, popped in the new one, put everything back and now everything is working fine. :)
