I deal with pensioners on a daily basis and when you come across one who it turns out died on their birthday, it does make you think, "Awwwww", in the same way Vicki Pepperdine did.

Similarly, on the odd occasion when I speak to one whose birthday it is on the day, and you wish them happy birthday they do appreciate it. I get the feeling in some situations that I'll be the only one who says that to them throughout the whole day, judging by their reaction.

I thought this was excellent and shows that Jo Brand can accommodate the new style of comedy that has evolved in recent years- unlike so many of her 80's compatriots...

The only thing I could think of that may improve it would to be making known that the camera was a documentary maker. It seemed that in several of the scenes they wanted to lookk directly at the camera to make a funny face or comment about what had just happened but they had to do it past the camera.

Did anyone else watch this?

I thought it had potential, but the camera work was making me feel nauseous and has actually given me a headache

Verit

I watched it on BBCHD, can't say I noticed the camera work though.

Really does have potential, seems like The Office but hospital based.

I do love dark humour though...

I think it would just get compared too much to the Office if they did that. And then it would lose as the media's preconceptions would kick in before seeing it.

The way I saw the programme, we were just a fly on the wall, so it wasn't meant to be a documentary, we were just observing what was going on in a grim hospital ward, as if they didn't know we were there.

This morning, Breakfast showed a beRABide scene between Den and Dr Moore which will be in tonight's show (I won't give the details away, obviously, but it was just as brilliant as the first show) as the two of them were interviewed about it.

Shame they didn't think about doing that a week ago as there's only 3 eps.

I stumbled across this just flicking and loved it. I thought the characterisations were well rounded. A quite surprise. I shall definitely be looking out for it again.

Loved tonight's episode and the last moments were actually quite sad.

Nice to see Peter Capaldi pop up from behind the camera, since he also directs it.

Last one next week!

My mum is in an NHS old peoples ward at the moment.

Blimey, that programme was spot on. In particular the stool checking.
The poor old nurses actually do this, comparing `the results` to a chart..

(Give them a pay rise!)

The matron doing the nurse's annual appraisal reminded me of the ones that my last company carried out. Completely pointless.

Liked it, nice black humour.

I also noticed the camera work and did think they could cut down on the swaying a bit, but I think it is deliberatly done in that style. It's obviously very much influenced by The Thick Of It with Capaldi at the helm.

Does anyone know if it is fully scripted or part improvised?

I love this. I work in the NHS and well tbh it's kinda spot on. Highlights the conflict between actually wanting to care for the patient and getting your job done. I loved the scene with the porter who kept coming around with his trolley to see if the women had died.

Black humour at it's best.

Only seen the first episode but thought it was hilarious, one of the few comedies to actually make me laugh out loud! Why has it been put on bbc4 when bbc2 show rubbish comedies over and over again!

This is the funniest (in a guilty pleasure kinda way) program I have seen in ages. Every single moment was laugh out loud funny.

Why BBC 4 though? And why at that time? Good job it's on I player. It's wasted on at this spot and just another attempt to get everyone on digital quicker.

I agree with what has been said about the filming, it did take a bit of concentration.

Every character is fantastic and I would love to see a full series.
