I am a 66 yr old grandma who has been on 200mg of morphine twice a day for over 5 yrs. I havent had any serious pain for sometime and have decided to wean myself off of the morphine. I cut down to 100mg twice a day a week ago, no problems. Tonight I will skip the night time pill. I plan to stay with that for a week and if no problems, stop altogether. My blood pressure is normal and no restles legs. Does anyone have a comment?

just take it day by day. make sure your Dr knows your intentions. its always best to have medical support when required.

good luck, keep us posted.

As I said before, I quit the nighttime pill, taking me down to 100mg a day. Today was a little rough but no pain. I feel pretty blah and have a hissing noise in my head. Has anyone ever had that?

no, not personally - but withdrawals can bring on all sorts of weirdness. Perhaps you're tapering too fast? It depenRAB how you feel? If you feel you can do it - then greaat, keep going. Just dont burn yourself out before you get to the final stage, because you're going to need all your strength for that. There have been lots of posts in the past with help/advice for techniques/tips for withdrawal syptoms, have a search - some of them might help.

hang in there - in the grand scale of things, this time is but a drop in the ocean. you're doing really well. keep up the good work.

Thank you very much for answering. You are so right, I was going too fast. Last night I got sicker than a dog. I really felt bad. So I have gone back to two pills a day. I think I will need to stay there for a while and then try to go down again. I am just so dedicated in getting off this stuff. I am sick and tired of being a slave to it, always afraid I wont get my prescription. I was afraid of going into strong withdrawel. That happened to me once and I dont want to do it again. I have never felt a craving for the drug, not even a desire for it. Of course I am addicted though. Thanks again for responding.

Hey There!

GOOD FOR YOU! I think you are doing great! It's probably best that you take this taper/wean down a little slower since you have been on it for 5 years and are on 200mg.. I don't know how strong that is... just thinking that morphine is a strong drug so take it slow.. I am not an expert though. I think my wean down program was a little quick because I suffered so badly thru the whole process.. However, now I am feeling much better and am so thankful for it!
I will keep you in my thoughts and hope you feel better soon! Keep us posted with how you are doing!
