getting my first car help?

i just got my permit i have about $8500 saved up and i want to use it to get a car, so my yesterday my dad took me to some used car salesman and he had 2 used cars within my price range and i dont know which one to pick. cars:

1. 2005 honda civic coupe EX, $6300 with 62500 miles drivin, no damage just a little dirty inside.
2. 2004 toyota corolla LX, $7000 with 59700 miles drivin, little scratches on the lefts door (also the sngine has been replaced) =(

ya so i dont know which one to get hard choise. and also do you guys think they are reasnable prices?
 
I would suggest the Toyota Corolla, since I have prior experience with Toyota, but I would avoid this particular car, since you mentioned the engine.
