Getting a transmission flush for a 2007 chevy aveo?

I bought my car in May 2007, brand new with only 20 miles on it. I recently had an inspection done on my car and was told that it needed a transmission flush since it had reached 30,000 miles. I asked for an estimate, and was given a lengthy explanation about how an aveo transmission is special and requires a special fluid. I was told that the base cost would be $230, and that was before any labor charges. I thought this was too high, and called another auto service shop and was told that it would cost about $139, and that they had never heard of an aveo needing a special fluid that would cost extra. I'm obviously more inclined to go to the place that charges less. However, I would like to go speak with the manager at the place that gave me the high estimate because of the "special transmission", because when my father called he was given a lower estimate and there was no mention of needing a "special fluid", and i'm pretty sure I was given the higher estimate because i'm a young female and do not know as much about mechanics. So I was wondering if anyone had any info on what fluid my transmission would take, and how much it would normally cost so that I am informed when I file a complaint.

The Aveo is NOT really an AMerican made car, and it DOES require a special fluid. READ your owne'r manual under "fluid specifications." You would be VERY foolish if you do NOT go to GM for this service. THey have the right fluid, the right filter, and the right gasket. Call them and see if they don't have a service special. SOmetimes, they will make one up for you. DO NOT use generic fluid in this car!!!

A state inspection will never be failed because you need a transmission flushed, it's not one of the criterion. Most transmission (even chevy aveo's) should be flushed once in early life (10-20k miles) to clean any potential metal flakes broken down in the tranny and then repeatedly every 60,000miles after that.

A typically transmission flush should cost about $150-$175 TOTAL. That will include new fluid, labor, taxes, and disposal. Anything vastly off this estimate is a complete rip-off.

Woman or not, being at the inspection place can be tough, because they know they have you hooked. You cant get your sticker unless you get a transmission flush - which is complete garbage. Have it cleaned by another mechanic - the one offering it to you for $139.00 and get your sticker elsewhere if he refuses to give it to you.

ok i have experience as a basic mechanic for 10 years on my life and 4 years on the jobs i worked on chevy aveo before on the jobs. mostly vehicle must be maintenance automatic transmission every 60,000 mile some do have like 30,000 mile like a BMW and the luxury vehicle. if you have standard transmission..i recommended change fuild every 60,000 mile there is no special need unless transmission is modified or high performance race transmission. but you should be fine and mostly all you have to do to check the transmission fluid by yourself by taking the dipstick that said transmission or color red not yellow...if it yellow and no name on it and you can be able to check your manual book in your car. so once you see the transmission fluid if it clear red you should be all set...if it a little brown or dirty i would recommended for transmission service so it alot easier for you to see it if you wipe down the dipstick with WHITE paper towel to be able to tell the color but if you have standard transmission there is no dipstick on the standard transmission. just a reminder...go to the shop and you have a right to look at the transmission fluid by the mechanic and you will know what i am talking about. so they cant rip you off.

$230 just for the labor? That's way high. I've even taken a Toyota to the dealer and had the whole flush done for $150.
