Get to ignition? M50

I had my primary key and my spare key with me for my motorcycle when I was traveling last week, and someone stole both. Since this happened out of state, I'm not really worried about someone stealing the bike.

I called the place I bought my M50 from, and they said that they can sometimes make a new key based on some number found on the ignition.

Any idea where to locate this number?

06 M50

Well, its gonna take some disassembly of the bike to get the number, pull the tank, ign. side cover, ign. switch, the number you need is stamped on it...

Dealer monkeys can be such dumb asses.............

Before you go to all that trouble, look in your owner's manual for a Customer Service number and call Suzuki. I think that all major manufacturers have a record of that number and/or an actual key code from which a new key can be cut without taking anything apart.

Failing that, check with a professional locksmith in your area. They often have access to the same information, using your VIN for input.

Alright, back on topic...

Did you have to get a blank from Suzuki, or did the locksmith have one that matched? I only have one key and tried to get one cut at Lowe's, but they didn't have any that matched exactly. They cut one for me that was close, it didn't work, but they were cool about it and refunded my money.

Thanks Rockhead, I'll have to check with locksmiths around here before I shell out the money for a Suzuki key.

BTW, I spent a few years in Chicago...lived at Sheridan and Granville. Love the Windy City, but too damn expensive.
