one of my friends told me a simple way to get great service. all u have to do is: click # * menu right: really quick. then there will be a list, go down to error channel and put it on. then go back to the main screen and u will see some numbers and letters were ur service bars are usually. they will go away and u will most likely get service. the numbers and letters come every so often. trust me on this one if defintly works. i used it on my i860 and my old i730 and works great.

Ditto. All I saw was the codes to reflect the modes the phone was going through. They were superimposed to the right of the Ready screen over the text. Kept doing that while in all modes on the phone exept net when you get past the main menus. These did not appear up where the signal bars are. Think this guy has issues farther than those with his phone. These are only trace programs for Reston and Plantation to figure out what's happening in the event your phone gets stuck between modes. Most of the time they don't need it because it's pretty obvious what your phone is doing and when.

T=Keyed on PTT to talk or receiving
t=Standing by in PTT mode
2=Connecting to tower
D=Actively sending or receiving data IP connection
d=Standing by for data IP connection
P=Connected on cell
p=Standing by for cell

Who needs this added grief when just trying to use the SMRS services?

IT doesnt do anything for reception..those numbers are the Bit error rate numbers. They are used by field techs to find out about the system while the system is on the air it tells them what Channel of the cell site they are on and gives them additonal system measurements. IT DOES NOTHING TO IMPROVE SIGNAL STRENGTH

Yep, my friend is a nextel tech, it's for techs to find the channel on a cell tower that your connected to, just like eatech3 said. This rumor has been running around for awhile now, it doesn't do anything for reception.
