get internet while on the phone

i hate making threads like this because i know this issue has been addressed somewhere i just have problems finding the right words to search and when i searched it came up with loads of irrelevance

so i was wondering has there been a way around this? or with a rooted phone is there anyway to fix this?
 
there is no problem doing that. i just am testing right now. im making a phone call with the speaker on while surfing the net. oh, and im downloading too! wait a minute, isnt that what AT&T is saying only they do? funny, last time i checked i was with tmobile. hmmm....
 
That is a carrier specific problem. Sadly you cannot use the internet while talking on the phone but seriously how many times do you HAVE to use the internet while on the phone? I originally wanted to go with AT&T b/c of that then I realized that I never use speaker phone so that I can go online while on a call. Of course everyone is different but the ability or inability to go online has to do specifically with the carriers choice of voice/data network. So the simply answer is NO you cannot work around it as that is a constant that cannot be changed through rooting.
 
well im on the phone a lot and im a good multi-tasker so phone + bluetooth + gang wars = good fun except i have no internet to play gang wars lol but ya so you're saying t-mobile wont let you do it?

I've tried surfing when I'm on the phone while connected to 3G, I can't do it on my MyTouch 3G. When I'm on the phone if I try to use any data it says unavailable. Haven't tried WiFi.
 
wifi was said as a joke, cus its an obligation for it to work on wifi, ur connected to a different network, give it a go without any doubts, but anyways back to the 3G issue

there are a few spots where the phone wont do it, i tried it at my local DMV and didnt work, and then tried it a few blocks away cus i was pissed, and it worked, but it does work, u prolly need to have a reall good amount of 3g coming in and going out
 
This is not an Android or network issue as such. It's the way GSM works. You cannot use data during a voice call when only connected to 2G. It has always been like this for all GSM phones, and is part of the GSM standard.

You can use data and voice at the same time if you're on 3G or WiFi.
 
ya i tried 3g and wifi when i was on the phone im sure im just in a spot with not that great wifi like juans DMV which sucks but oh well
