Get a job or get out...

Been a while since I have been on here...

I graduated High School May 29th... About 3 months ago. I do not have a car, nor a license. I am trying to find work within walking distance which is not easy because this town isn't close together and this town has no work. I live with my mom and my two sisters. My ex-step-dad gives child support for the two sisters and 90% of it goes to bills for this house. Needless to say the house IS in his name. But technically my moms money is paying the mortgage and all of the bills... Now let's get to the fun part... I used to want to join the military back in 9th to 10th grade but now I do not. I don't feel that it would be for me. My ex-step-dad thinks otherwise and has completely convinced my mom of the same.

Let me say... I do not have anything against the military... I respect the men and women who can protect our country with their own lives. I just do not believe it is for me.

That being said. Every time I come in contact with this man he keeps trying to SHOVE the military down my throat and tries the whole pitty-party bull shit and keeps trying to feed me bullshit saying he loves me and if he really thought I was going to die he wouldn't send me. Little does he know dying is the least of my troubles. So one morning he comes to fix a leak in the kitchen sink and my mom, him, and me sit down and he starts talking about the military and I told him flat. I am not joining the military. So then he said the one thing that really hit me... he said "The way I see it if you don't have a job by the end of August... you should be out."

When I say it hit me... I mean... HOW DARE HE. How can he kick me out? I mean I know HOW he can but... no one has offered to help me with anything. I don't have a penny to my name and I am supposed to procure a mode of transportation, a job, and a license? I am trying. I do agree. I need a job. I want a for ffs. I will work any shift any day. I can understand if maybe I was completely accommodated that he could say such a thing but I am not. Like I said before I have not been asked to drive around town to pick up applications... no I had to walk 18 miles to get my applications. I have not had the opportunity to walk 18 more miles to turn some of them in but I only have like 3-4 left out of 8.

Anyways... I really hope he doesn't find the ability to remove me from this house if I cannot get a job by August.

If you guys have any questions about any of the details just ask... I will reply back.

He's probably bluffing.

Make mommy really love this next month. You could also google pictures of amputee soldiers and show them to your mom. Maybe check out that new wikileak and show her some of the data. Tell her you don't want to be dismembered or end up killing civilians on accident. Tell her that many soldiers are never the same emotionally.

I would love to go to Culinary school. That is why I want a job. I need money for transportation. The closest school for just about ANYTHING is nearly an hour walk away.

When I get a way to get around town whether it be a bike or a car I will definitely be getting into Culinary school and apply for any financial aid and the works.

(My family does not have the luxuries of having the money to help out with anything of the sort. Not even a bike.)

I hear you, and I feel your pain. I'm currently using borrowed cars to get around. The part that sucks is, I have to let people know ahead of time when I will be needing wheels, and I don't like having that kind of tabs kept on me. I live in a rural area, and it would take me 2 or 3 hours just to walk to the nearest town (population about 3,000), and an entire day to make it to the nearest public transportation hub. If it were not for the borrowed cars, I would be completely screwed. They kind of feel like they owe me, and I hate to say it, but I kind of milk that. I'm pretty sure, however, that if they found out I was gay, I'd be in the street or a ditch within the hour.

Wow I feel ya (clearly). I hope things turn around and you get your own set of wheels.
Yeah I don't have anyone around that can offer me a car like that. I have people that are going to be getting cars soon and they have been offering but I hate doing that. I mean I will if anyone ever offers but I don't like it.

You should start applying for fed student aid now. Considering that your family doesn't seem to even have the funds to get you a bike, you should qualify easily. Even if you don't use the cash now, you can still get an idea of what kind of funds you'll receive. In the meantime, you can try to find a job close to that school. There are usually students looking for roommates near colleges. Also, there are work study programs available. You could be working on campus while going to school.

Then you can tell em both to go fuck themselves.

It sucks being under someone's thumb, but you do what you have to do, not necessarily what you want to do. I've had to make do with it for about 4 years now. I'm going to school now, but I'm fulltime and making my money being on VA disability. Keeps the AC on.

Yeah I was under the impression that you need to apply to the school that you wish to have help with... I should look a bit more into it then. Yeah I am definitely going to be inquiring about working on or near campus and finding somewhere else to live. Just have to work my way up slowly.

Yeah that is definitely good. Gotta have that AC :)

Yeah, it sounds like you definitely qualify for govt assistance and if you're diligent you can find out what other help you might receive from the govt while in school as well as the least expensive rent/dorm available. Your best bet is to go (whenever you can get transportation) to the financial aid office at the school and find out EVERYTHING you are entitled to and get that ball rolling.

I can't imagine your mom would not agree to help you at least get to the school knowing you were making the attempt to prepare yourself for the career you have in mind. Did I miss you say they don't have a car? I don't remember reading that.

EDIT: The website to start your federal financial aid is http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/ . Regardless where you go to school, you start there. Individual schools have more aid available typically so don't stop after applying at FAFSA

You're going to need your parents tax info... "borrow" it if they are assholes about it.

http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/

It's all about filling out an online form.

Once you complete the form, the wizard has you select schools to forward the financial aid info to, and then they (the schools) will contact you through snail mail with your benefits information.

Until you fill out the fasfa you ain't got the ball rollin.

No she does. She hates driving. It wouldn't hurt to ask but I mean there is a chance I can get a job at Home Depot for instance... She heard one of her friends sons got a job there and their orientation was in Orlando which is about an hour from here and she made it pretty clear saying that maybe someone else will drive me down there.

I will definitely work on this right this moment. Thank you very much.

Lol, read my edit and Centered's post. More financial aid help. I think if you let your mom know how serious you are about post secondary education she might try a bit harder.
