Gervais'......The Invention Of Lying (1 Star Empire Magazine)

I hate Ricky Gervais, but thought I'd give the film a chance. Easily the worst film I have seen in my whole entire life!

Most characters do seem to be a play on his own character. I'd like to see him do something completely out of his comfort zone, a real gritty drama or something

^Methinks you never intended to give it a chance whatsoever, with your highly unbelievable review.

Also, am I the only one who thinks Ricky Gervais has some kind of anti-piracy powers? There were no copies of Ghost Town until the week or so before the DVD release, and so far there are no copies of this one appearing at all. What's his secret?

Not true. I wouldn't have gone to see it if I wasn't willing to give it a chance.
Maybe you enjoyed it, I didn't and my remark (not a review) was my honest opinion. Sorry it didn't match yours, but hey, we can't all be perfect ;)

Somewhere between the first and second series of Extras he became insufferable, and everything he's done since has been poor and at times incredibly lazy. His pathetic and constant attempts to tell us how little he cares about what the critics have to say is one of the best examples of protesting too much I've ever seen.

They only gave Ghost Town a 2 star rating & I thought it was a lot better 3.5/4 stars. I cannot stan Gervais either but will give this new movie a watch.

I'll second that!! The trouble with critics is that they are paid to give their opinion. This leaRAB to them thinking (however much they might try to deny it) that their opinon is more important than yours or mine. It's only a short step from there to thinking that their opinion is the only one that counts

Roger Ebert gave it 7/10, Xan Brooks on the Guardian site gave it 8/10 and Lisa Schwarzbaum of Entertainment Weekly gave it a B+ (whatever that means).

Why do you all care so much what reviwers and critics say? Most of the time they talk complete and utter BS.

Christ almightly form your own opinions on something for once.

SCREW film critics. Easiest job in the world and they talk so much crap.

I don't like Ricky Gervais but saw the trailer for this & thought it looked funny although there is the risk that all the funny bits are in the trailer

Indeed, and if you don't like it, ignore them. It's that simple really. No-one's brainwashing you to agree. and if the film is indeed rubbish, you've wasted a tenner or thereabouts.
I guess it depenRAB how much disposable cash you have ;)

You don't know me, my likes and dislikes. You don't know what films I have seen in my life. So how can you call me a liar based on the fact I that I said it was the worst film I have ever seen?
Just because you seem to like the film does it mean I have to? We all like and dislike different things, but to be called a liar because I choose to dislike something you like is a bit of a stupid thing to say.

I thought it was just entertaining enough to keep me from walking out of the cinema, but that's about it. It was basically a substance-less, plothole filled waste of time. I didn't laugh once, nor did I even feel there was any payoff at the end, probably because the characters were so unlikeable I didn't care.

And I quite like Gervais, I really enjoyed Ghost Town too.

I don't know about you, but I don't have time to see every single film that makes it to my local cinema.

The whole point of critics is that they can give you an idea of what might be worth going to see. It's not like people read the reviews instead of seeing the films and forming an opinion on them.
