How much space do they have? I have two male Gerbils whom live in a 30 gallon tank so there is no need to chase each other about for territory rights. If your cage is too small then the bigger Gerbil will chase the little one to show who is boss.
I suggest separating the two if you think a fight will break out, this will also give your smaller one a chance for feeding.
