Just chatting with a Freind and we came to the conclusion that the 1978 Version of Dawn is still the most Iconic but I thought what about you guys?

Plus...what is the definitative Uncut Version?

Was a little dissapointed in Diary but it was still fun to see the Anarchy taking over as the Dead rise!

Discuss?

In the order of how I like George's movies:

Day of the Dead.
Dawn of the Dead.
Diary of the Dead.
Land of the Dead.
The Crazies.
Monkey Shines.

The problem with a lot of the movie goers of today is they are expecting George to keep making Dawn of the Dead epics. If he did that he would be damned for not being original and now that he isn't keeping to the two and a half hour epic zombe-fests he is thus damned by some. Damned if he does, damned if he doesn't. The man can't win in some peoples eyes. Mind you, it is the same for other movie makers and stars. There is just no pleasing some people.

The fact is, Diary is a decent movie. Not great by any standarRAB. But it is good. There's a difference between being good and being great. Good is still... erm... good though. I think George just made Land of the Dead as a means to an end. So as to get movie producers and that into the idea of investing in zombie movies again. And it paid off as he got Diary made. Diary is a nice take on the zombie theme through camcorders, kind of what we'd be like if we ended up in a zombie outbreak. I'd be running around filming stuff and then uploading it to Youtube and other sites for people all over the world to see. Damn right I would. Make a name for myself with some risky footage being taken and watched by millions across the world. I think George was aiming for that whole media thing with the camcorder view the movie had and how the internet is the IN thing for this generation of kiRAB and adults alike.

There's nothing wrong with having a theme running through the movies you make. It sometimes makes for better viewing than just your typical mainstream studio run of the mill wannabe dull horror movie... The Boogey Man.... Darkness Falls... The Grudge 2... etc. George is like the intelligent mans favourite horror movie maker. His movies give you a little though and dont sugar coat things for the babies out there.

George rules, you tules :p

The way I heard it is that the Dawn of the Dead remake sparked Hollywood interest in the genre and allowed him to make Land of the Dead, but he was disappointed with Land, especially with the studio interference, so he financed Diary of the Dead himself. I could be wrong though.

My favourite Romero film without a doubt is Martin - which no one has mentioned yet.

followed by, in order:

Night of the Living dead
Dawn of the Dead
The Crazies
Day of the Dead
Land of the Dead
Diary of the Dead

I was speaking though about investment in George's zombie franchise only. He stated himself that it is getting more difficult all the time to find funding for independent movie making these days. And Him doing Land did eventually lead to talks of another zombie movie [Diary]. Zombie movies were being made even when George wasn't making any. I think it was through his own efforts and contacts that got him the job. After all I heard that John Carpenter offered to help fund it in return for John's name being beside George's onscreen and for John to write the music score for it. Guillermo Del Toro and a few other movie makers were offering to help George get his movie off the ground as well if it didn't happen by other means. That shows the support and respect and love others have for George and his Zombie saga. Especially when the likes of big time directors such as Guillermo Del Toro stepped up and offered to put his money into it himself.

Day Of The Dead (1985) is a masterpiece imo, one of my favourite horrors ever. Closely followed by Dawn then Night. But Creepshow is probably my favourite Romero film. I've loved it for 25 years, never get tired of it. Fabulous cast, some great laughs, lots of gore and horror, and Adrienne Barbeau. Whats not to love? :D

Night of the Living Dead is still my favourite Romero film.

Dawn of the Dead is massively overrated in my book.

It starts well but the satire is laid on with a trowel & as for that custard pie fight.
