I have a 1972 Pontiac Lemans luxury. 2 days ago I cranked my car and and it made all the obvious sounds that the battery needed a jump. it still enough juice for interior lights. I jumped it and she drove for a few miles then when I stopped at an intersection she completely cut off and lost power. no lights or anything. The guy in behind me took me to a friends house and gave me a new battery, but also mentioned that I may have an alternator issue. he said the engine should run with out a battery if the alt is good. Well she cranked right up with the new battery, and has cranked up fine yesterday and today, but my GEN light is flashing when I slow down to stop. Should I take her to get the alternator replaced? Or was it just my battery- it could have been really old.
