could be anything... help!!? So, like I said the bike is a 1976 Kawasaki KE175. It usually runs fine, BUT sometimes:

If you take off the engine cover, you get to the carbs. If you take off the bowl, you get the jets and float, right? So, the way the float works is to rise (float) on the gas in the bowl, and then when it gets to a certain level, it pushes closed a little valve, which stops gas flow.

So, here's my problem. The float works fine and closes the valve and everything, BUT, every so often (and becoming more and more frequent), the valve STAYS pushed up and therefor shut, and no gas can pass. If you go in with a screwdriver or key or whatever and just kind of tap it, it falls right back down the the gas comes pouring out. Why does it get stuck? I've tried oiling it, i've tried jiggling it up and down to loosen whatever is catching, anything else? When I oiled it, I just sprayed WD40 kind of all over the valve, is there something in particular I should oil?

Any help??

thanks

oil wont help in a gas bowl, you have electrolytic corrosion on parts in the old fuel bowl area, real common, Get a carb rebuild kit as it comes with the float, the little pins, the shut off pin valve and seat, gaskets etc and will make this problem go away for ever. EASY to do, make sure you count turns when taking out old needle jets so you put new ones in same amount. Piece of cake.

take it apart, clean it, blow it out with compressed air and replace the gaskets when you put it back together.
