Gearshift stuck in park on an 2001 econoline ford van?

I have a 2001 econoline ford van, which currently is out of commission because the gearshift is stuck in park. I have also noticed that the breaklights do not turn on when the break is applied. Since the break needs to be applied in order to change the gear, and the break does not seem to be registering, I think this may be related.

How may I be able to fix this? Thanks :)

You are very correct! The problem Is more thanlikely the brake light switch. It controls the brakelioghts and sends a signal to she shift lock to let you get it out of park. It also turns off the cruise control and the ABS uses it as an input signal. So more than likely, none of this stuff works. The brakelight switch is located above the brake pedal. The brake pedal actually touches it and the switch opens up when the pedal is depressed.
