Gear changing problem(gears are too hard to operate) in Hero Honda Splendor (old model)?

I have Hero honda splendor (make 2002) . My problem is that while changing gears it works very hard. Gear works too much hard now and to come into neutral gear is too much difficult. Sometimes I thought I should keep an hammer with me to change the gears. I am tired. Can anyone tells the right solution? thanks in advance
