Gatchaman(aka G-Force) and Astro Boy CG movie concept art

Gatchaman, G-Force, Battle of the Planets. Same original concept.

It also got turned into Jetman XD

Astro Boy, different project. By the same studio.

Astroboy looks pretty fun. I guess they're leaving out some of the silliness to the background designs, at least I hope not.

Gotchaman looks exactly the same as Astroboy in style and feel too -- and they feel similar to TMNT. I hope I'm not the only one that thinks this. Although it's neat to see these series, I hope this studio doesn't get into a rut of 'lovable tough designs with angsty backgrounds'.

Astroboy may be going the Speed Racer route. It maintains somewhat of the series, but there's going to be giant sci-fi monstrosity type stuff going on, with techno music.

What reviews do you speak of? I found those reviews hillariously unfair. Serious critics crapped all over the film for being TMNT, and not being some snot nosed indie whine fest (which they pretend to like), while the reviewers that did get it, completely banked on this film being a mindless retread of the 80's cartoon, and not a floating sequal for the first 3 live action movies.

Anyway, Astro looks great, just like a CGI Astroboy should look. CGI Anime based designs are always a little tricky, but they pulled it off damn good. I really hope the plot line and script are good, though.

The main criticisms was for what TMNT was, a comic franchise reimagined. That's not what they want to see.

CGI is useless without good storytelling. Astro's writers don't inspire a lot of confidence and neither do the plot rumors of random aliens.

Imagi did a fine job with TMNT so I think Astro is in good hands. The show has demonstrated that odd plots can make good episodes so I'll judge it when I see it.
