Gas tank expanding

I know this was brought up a while ago that Ducati might have a recall on the gas tank expanding. I talked to Newport Beach Ducati and they said they may be able to get it covered even though my warranty is up as an emmisions issue. Has anyone else had their gas tank expand and bulge out anywhere and had it replaced??

I haven't noticed any after only 2,4xx miles.

Can you provide any tips on what parts of the tank to keep an eye on?

I'm still hoping I don't get the dreaded radiator leak lol.

Thanks!

It is bulging out on the top of the tank to the lower left of the gas cap if you are sitting on the bike and also on the left side in the front where you tuck your leg up. The dealer said they have seen this before and would love them to replace it providing I don't have to pick up the $3000 bill that a new tank costs from Ducati.

If by some chance Ducati won't pick it up... You might want to consider the now available from DP.... The Aluminum 1098/1198 gas tank and have it painted to match..

Havn't had that problem yet but in just a little over a yrs time I have had my 08' 1098S in the shop FOUR times for various problems! But I still love it.........

why are the tanks expanding? Do these not vent the gas fumes when the pressure builds up like most of the jap bikes do? My old ninja would "hiss" after a ride as it self vented. I never hear that on my duc, so I end up opening the gas cap after a ride and periodically when it just sits and it will definately hear a "hiss" when I do so. Not sure if a lack of venting combined with the polymer tank could be the culprit?

+1

I've seen this myself on my buddies S4R. The tank is "growing" to one side and the top latch isn't aligned like it's suppose to. He's been waiting for Ducati to announce a problem and a recall but so far he's SOL. Our suspicion is that it's ethanol related.
