Gas Pedal feels stuck when trying to accelerate?

Safety first!! Learn to quickly shift the transmission to neutral if you have "unattended acceleration". Practice doing that while your driving. It won't hurt the transmission and it will prepare you for an emergency. Since Toyota is fixing similar problems, try the dealer, but since your car is over 10 years old, I myself would first spray some WD-40 all around the accelerator cable linkage at the intake manifold (top of engine). Temporarily remove the driver's floor mat to make sure it's not causing the problem. You may need a new accelerator pedal cable.
This problem could also be due to a sticking throttle plate as suggested in the first answer. So I agree that the throttle plate and bore should be cleaned and check for free movement as in the first answer.

I've noticed lately that when I'm driving I'll push on the gas but the pedal doesn't move almost like it's stuck. I've seriously put all my weight into it once or twice and the gas pedal won't move at all. If I tap it hard two or three times it will finally move. It just started maybe 1 month ago. It doesn't do it all the time but it will be random. For instance, I'll be sitting at a light and the light will turn green and I'll push the pedal and it's stuck so I have to tap it to get it to go. Or I'll be driving down the highway with cruise control on and when I want to go faster it's stuck. It only happens when I first push the pedal. If I'm already pushing it it doesn't stick until my foot is off of it. I have a 1998 Toyota Camry.
