gas leak

Hey, was searching the threads and found this, I have an 03 RK that just today started leaking from the quick connect. I looked and it is definitley leaking from the quick connect connection and not from the tank seal, what part# is the replacement and do I just have to replace the part that connects to the hose or replace the part that is screwed into the tank.
Thanks, I have had the bike since it was new and this is the first issue I have had.

both sides of the disconnect should check off no problem . How do I know? I built the machine and programmed it that assembles the black part and I maintained the machine that leak tests the chrome part in the tank.. Then got the permanent layoff notice.. .. The only way it can leak is it would have to be not connected all the way or the fitting is loose in the tank or also you could have a damaged o-ring in the chrome part. some where i have a scan and a sketch of how its all put together.. Ill look for it on my comptor tomorrow. The mgood news is its prolly repairable...

I don't know about your year and setup, but mine were sold as one part number for each hose assembly. My bro has an '05 Ultra and he said he's only got one hose/connection under the tank; whereas I have two.
My front connection was leaking, which is the supply line and the replacement was p/n# 61470-99 $112 at the HD counter. Since I was going to have the tank off, I figured I'd do both lines, so I got the return line p/n# 61471-95a online.
The only thing that sucks it that the HD dealer only had the one, so I bought it. Direct replacement, black hose and connectors.
Since they didn't have the return line in stock and and wanted $70 more for it, I shopped online and found it cheaper than the HD counter. When I ordered it, they told me the part number had been changed AND the price went up. It was still cheaper than at HD, so I went along.
Well I got the part and it's chrome braided tubing with chrome hardware...pretty, but now I have one black and one chrome

Oh well...

My 03 RK only has one connection and I disconnected it last night and no fuel Leak, which n8dc emailed me yesterday saying that if it did not leak when disconnected it was the o ring that is in the tank side connection. I really wonder if it is in fact the Ethanol eating these o rings, maybe HD didn't think of that 7 years ago when I bought her? Well anyway, all HD stealers are closed on Mondays here in lost Angeles so I will grab the o ring today and hopefully get it installed tonight and will post back.

the company i worked for was actually redesigning the whole disconnect from another material because of the ethanol fuel but i never heard about the o-rings as i thought they were compatible. Im still betting from your email that there is a chunk outta your oring or its cut some how.. Do let us know .. On the redesign deal of course H/D wanted it all done without any price increase! ya thanks H/D your part of the reason im jobless.. Seems its ok to raise the price of the bikes every year though ?...

Well the Ethanol ate all of the o rings! I ended up unscrewing the female part outta the tank and took my dental tool, thanks Harbor Freight, and scraped and scraped. The rings were both 'baked' on to the part as well as just crumbled out. Well I am sorry you are not part of the team any longer as I'm sure you would have been able to improve it from the feedback on the forums, I don't think HD is listenting to their customers' feedback in the same manner.

I have an 06 FXDBI (Street Bob) that just started leaking...I think. I just bought it for the little woman last week. Maybe the seller failed to mention this was a problem???

Ok so where exactly is it leaking? I need more info.. Ill have rebuild kits for the quick disconnect fitting complete with instructions very soon but till that happens tell me more ill help if i can .........

Dave,
I'd like to rebuild my Check Valve but not sure what goes inside it on the plunger and spring but, I think there should be an o-ring or something. I'm trying to make a fuel pressure tester because the local dealer won't sell the h-d version. Any info. will help. P.S.- what company makes them? Thanks, Mike
