Gardening tip to someone who knows nothing about gardening at all!!!?

I was wondering if anyone has any tips on what is the best type of flowers to plant? I have no gardening skills at all!!! So anyone with any good tips would help!!! Also any suggestions on the type of plant that is easy to maintain and take care of...I live in Ontario, Canada...so flowers here are only good for a few months before winter weather hits!!!

My best advice to you would to be to go to your local nursery and talk to them. I didnt know anything about gardening at all so I went to my nursery and now I am doing pretty good at it.

You can try asking about butterfly bushes, hastas, pansies do well in cool temps. The only way to learn is to try. Anything that is at your local nursery will obviously be ok to plant in your area. Just ask them how to plant and anything else you may need (extra soil, mulch, gloves, shovles). Good luck.
 
I like the first answer but would like to add,
start paying attention to the light at different times of day in the areas you want to plant.
8 hours is full sun
4-6 hours is considered part sun
less than 4 part shade
only dappled sun or no sun are going to need shade hardy plants, not a lot of options.
Keep in mind trees above that will get leaves soon, will create shade.
You don't have to be exact but should have an idea so the nursery people can better help you.

I would say given your situation, consider a plant close to your name like the camellia. This plant will take on the cold weather and keep its color, but you should protect it from harsh winds. Try the Snow Flurry species.

You can also try berry bearing plants like hollies. They produce red berries and is visually attractive and easy to maintain.
