I am a complete NOVICE in the art of gardening and stumped as to how to go about improving the soil quality. I have a retaining wall the length of my backyard that’s roughly 2 ½ ft tall. I plan to use the space to grow edibles . . .
I tested both pH and fertility of the soil. The pH was ideal but the fertility was less than.
There’s also large amounts of rocks/ clay and tree roots from the neighboring yard.
Would anyone know what would be the best way to correct this?
I planned on just digging up 6-12inches and replacing it with store bought garden soil. Or, since it’s a retaining wall, would potting soil be best?
I’ve read a little about amending techniques, and plan on researching it more if my original plan isn’t a no go.
Thanks.
