Garden: What are these black fuzzy caterpillars?

I live in Az, and today I saw several black fuzzy caterpillars. They are probably an inch in length or so, and somewhat skinny. My research indicates they are Giant Leopard Moth larvae, but I have not seen any of those around, and I'm pretty sure the larvae don't have the red band segments. They are also targeting my spearmint, but not my sunflowers or bougainvilleas, which I read were popular foods for the GLM. Are there any other insects that these might be? I'm asking for two reasons. One, I am curious and I want to know what to expect to see flying around. Also, I have four cats, two of which can't pass their shadow without trying to eat it. I want to know if these caterpillars are poisonous, for the sake of my cats' health. Thank you for your time.
Thank you for a very broad response that doesn't answer my question <_<
And I'm not going to use insecticides on caterpillars when the insecticide would be more harmful to my cats. The most damaging thing I would do is round up the caterpillars and take them to a nearby park.

caterpillars are larvae of Lepidoptera and are not poisonous I don't think that cats do it caterpillars beside that you have control them cause they can damage your crops
Cypermethrin and Chlorpyrifos can give you the solution.
