They aren't exaggerating! I had to go see it in the theatre the weekend it came out because I couldn't wait for it to come out. Even the trailer is beautiful (and addicting to watch, I have to add) and after watching it, I had pretty high expectations for the movie. That happens for me quite a bit and some movies never really reach those expectations but this one does, and I think it goes beyond it. The writing, acting, directing and music is amazing. I just picked up the DVD today and I really don't buy movies that often.

I didn't like this movie at all. I found it boring and I didn't really think of it as life-changing. It wasn't the least bit funny, Tthe plot was dry, the characters were boring and not likable (in my opinion) and the dialogue wasn't that good; I think it tried too hard to be a "deep." The whole movie was just :blah: to me and full of characters I don't care about and have no reason to care about because I couldn't relate to them in the least. The other thing that bugged me was the language. Over the top and much of it seemed unnecessary. Also the scene in the hotel was kind of ridiculous and I don't really know why that needed to be in there (what was with the kid with tape over his mouth? And were they peeping through the whole or watching a porno because it looked like a projector...) In the end I think this movie was a lot of hype, but little substance.

I live in Germany and often it takes a long time till they release DVDs, because of the dubbing and stuff.

I AM the only person in the world who hasn't seen this yet and CANNOT wait. All of my friends have seen it 2-3 times and all love it.

I was looking for some dvd's to buy for this christmas, and I saw this one:
"GARDEN STATE" which was directed and written by Zach Braff (of television’s Scrubs), who also stars alongside Natalie Portman (Star Wars: Episode I, Cold Mountain).

Well, this one seems to be very interesting :)
Did anyone already saw this movie?

Because I'm thinking in buy this dvd when it comes out on Dec. 28th ... :)

Here's the bio that i saw

"Andrew Largeman (Zach Braff) shuffled through life in a lithium-induced coma until his mother’s death inspired a vacation from the pills to see what might happen. A moderately successful TV actor living in Los Angeles, “Large” hasn't been home to the "Garden State" in nine years. But even with 3,000 miles between them, he's been unable to escape his domineering father Gideon (Sir Ian Holm) and the silencing effect he’s had on his son from afar.

Stunned to find himself in his hometown after such a long absence, Large finds old acquaintances around every corner living quite unique lives as gravediggers (Peter Sarsgaard), fast food knights and the panderers of pyramid schemes. Meanwhile, at home, he does his best to avoid a long-simmering but inevitable confrontation with his father.

By a twist of fate, Large meets Sam (Natalie Portman), a girl who is everything he isn’t. A blast of color, hope and quirks, Sam becomes a sidekick who refuses to ride in his sidecar. Her warmth and fearlessness give Large the courage to open his heart to the joy and pain of the infinite abyss that is life."

the golden globe awards are nominated by hollywood's foreign press....for a better representation of an award show that recognizes films like 'garden state' look no further than the independent spirit awards which are held the day before the oscars....i believe that, once again, it will be hosted by john waters.....('pecker' 'pink flamingoes' 'hairspray')......the show is usually broadcast on bravo.....this year 'garden state' is nominated in a couple of categories at that awards show....

It was amazing. Like you said, Zach Braff is just amazing and awe inspiring. Natalie Portman stole very scene she was in. The look and the soundtrack, just unbelievable.
I wanna see it again, and I have to pick up the soundtrack. It was just that good. I honestly think it is Award Worthy. I wouldn't be surprised if it did get nominated, because it should. Just amazing!

ITA. Great points by all of you. And I can say that GS has changed my outlook on life.

saw it for the second time saturday....and it just keeps getting better...cant wait for december 28th, though zach keeps on saying he's gonna push for somethng earlier :) which would be AWESOME! :)

the cd never leaves me, its either in rotation on my windows media player 24/7, or in my mp3 player, or in my car....its sick really...but its such a life changing soundtrack and movie that i cant help myself lol
and yes zach is a cutie, but im not like one of those girls who fawn or anything *shrugs* he's a beautiful and taleneted man :)

I seriously can't stop thinking about this movie. It was sooo great! I am not one to find Zach as being hot, he has too big of lips or something, but there is something about him that i found amazingly adorable.

I don't really like Natalie Portman but i thought she was wonderful in the movie.

I can't wait to see the movie and get the soundtrack. I might have to do that tomorrow.

Oh and geez, it made me realize how short life is. And how horrible it would be if I was on drugs that wouldn't let me feel things...even if they were bad. Feelings are sooo important I think to life.

yeah the soundtrack was great I thought! I started looking up The Shins and their music after watching this movie :)

wow. thanks for posting the poster.

I downloaded the song 'Let Go' and now I've become obsessed with it
