Adam and Eve were created in a garden setting and were kicked out because they ate from the tree of knowledge of good and bad in the middle of the Garden (Genesis 3:3). I knew this story my whole life but I did not catch that there was another tree, the tree of life (Genesis 3:22) that if Adam and Eve had access to it they would be able to live forever. Kind of like a fountain of youth. If we read more in the Genesis account Cherubs were put on the entrance of the garden to keep them not just from going into the garden but also to keep them from eating the tree of life and living forever (Genesis 3:24). So my premise is even though they had disobeyed God by eating from the tree of knowledge of good and bad they could have in theory lived forever on Earth if they still had access to the tree of life. So the question is raised why would Gods original purpose having man created from the Earth or dust (Genesis 2:7) and told to subdue it (caretaker) and to multiply (Genesis 1:28) be changed if Adam and Eve had the opportunity to live in a paradise earth forever then to live in an eternity in Heaven or Hell which is a common conclusion with a majority of Christians today? It seems that Gods original purpose was not to have them die at all. The punishment for disobeying was to die and to return to dust (Genesis 3:19). God never tells Adam and Eve that once they die they will burn forever in Hell just that you are going back to dust because you were taken from it. The concept of living in Heaven or Hell must not have been known or clear to them. If humans died anyway in the garden and if they did not eat the fruit of knowledge of good and bad then that would not be a punishment. Adam had many kids after he was out of the garden and lived for hundreds of years later then he died (Genesis 5). Any thoughts? Please look up all the scriptures and base your answers form the Bible before you respond. Thank you!
